About the Gala

Our biggest event of the year

Welcome to our first CDA Anniversary celebration! Join us for an unforgettable night of community and recognition!

Since its inception in 2020, CDA has grown into a comprehensive Community-Based Doula Agency and Medicaid Billing Hub committed to addressing the public health crisis of the high infant and maternal mortality rates and improving pregnancy and birth outcomes for birthing families. Our programs, projects, and staff continue to advocate for doulas and families of color to receive the culturally specific care they deserve.

In year 5, we are renewing our devotion to this movement by calling on our partners, donors, and supporters to celebrate and join us to continue the fight in providing life-changing care to birthing families of color. Help us make strides in realizing the full capacity of the Community Doula Alliance.

Don’t miss out – this is your gala too!

About Our Journey

Five years ago, we started with just a handful of volunteers and a dream.

Today, thanks to supporters like you, we’ve helped over 500 families and 50+ doulas hitting the goals of our 2 main programs to positively impact maternal health outcomes.

This gala isn’t just a party—it’s a celebration of how far we’ve come… and how much further we’ll go together.

Year 5

As of June 2025, we trained a Spring Co-Heart with 11 individuals that included at least 3 different languages with 64% of the graduating doulas remaining in our Bridge + Membership program to continue the THW professional pathway with us.

For the Diverse Doula Program, we started the year with 40 doulas and have since increased that number to 50 with the entire group being 100% THW certified!

Witnessing the impact and growth drives us to raise scholarship funds for 5 aspiring doulas and celebrate all of the milestone stories throughout the years!

Year 4

For our Community Doula Training, we offered 3 training groups throughout the year. We had 13 in our Spring Co-Heart and finished our strong with 9 in the Fall. As part of our Summer Co-Heart, we established a partnership with Fourth Plain Forward of Washington State to train 10 aspiring doulas to expand their workforce development opportunities.

For the Diverse Doula Program, we started the year with 54 doulas representing 6 languages, over 5 culturally specific groups including Black, Indigenous, Latinx/e, and Asian backgrounds, LGBTQ2IA+ communities and our first male doula!

By the end of the 2024, we launched our new Membership for the Diverse Doula Program reaching our goal of maintaining at least 40 diverse doulas on our roster, expanded Team CDA by 2 with a Doula Coordinator position and a Social Media Coordinator, plus we had the honor of being part of Willamette Weekly’s GiveGuide annual end of year fundraiser where we met 96% of our $40,000 goal.

Year 3

For our Community Doula Training, we offered 2 training groups in the Fall. As part of one of our Fall Co-Hearts, we partnered with Nurturely in Eugene, Oregon to train 7 aspiring doulas to expand their workforce development opportunities in Central Oregon. The Portland training Co-Heart had 13 aspiring doulas who received scholarships from Providence and Legacy hospitals.

For the Diverse Doula Program, we started the year with 31 doulas and grew our roster to 40 by the end of year. CDA doulas supported over 570 hours of prenatal, birth, and postpartum support to families and OHP members.

We saw the expansion of a new standalone HQ on Vermont Street as well as adding to Team CDA with a grant’s coordinator helping us reach strategic opportunities with the Collins Foundation, Marie Lamfrom Charitable Foundation, and our very own Washington County!

Year 2

For our Community Doula Training, we offered 2 training groups with a total of 16 students graduating. This was also the first time we started our Train the Trainer program to build mentorship and a pathway for experienced doulas to teach our C.A.R.E. Framework and future CDT Co-Hearts.

This was the very start of our Diverse Doula Program, where we started with 20 doulas available and being able to connect them to families and OHP clients after establishing strong connections with OHSU and Virginia Garcia Memorial Hospital. They were able to serve almost 300 families in 1 year!

Year 1

This was the very start of our Community Doula Training, which was originally titled Portland Doula Training or PDT. With this first group, we trained a Swahili-speaking group of 11 aspiring birth workers!

We also received our first sponsor from the Padosi Foundation, establishing the very foundation of our work!
